PICKETT CREEK

Pickett Creek is a photo series that documents my grandparent’s Oregon home of 27 years, and their progress as they pack it up to move towards warmer climates. What initially had a pure documentary aim quickly became intertwined with memory, emotion, and the significance of time and place. Eventually, it became a visual meditation on the things that made this place a home – to those who lived there and to all who passed through. It reveals the many ways we seek to situate ourselves within an environment, and the way our surroundings shape us in return. It becomes clear that time is impossible to unwind, and when we leave a place after so many years, the question remains: how much do we really take with us, and how much is left behind?
